Eric Senter - Head Coach - 5th Season

Eric is entering his sixth year as head coach of the Lady Cobra softball team.  His overall record at Virginia Intermont College is 103-111, 41-35 in the AAC. The Lady Cobras won the AAC Conference tournament in 2007. Eric won his 100th win this past season against Bryan College. Coach Senter is a graduate of Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Virginia. Eric received an Associate Degree in Police Science from Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Virginia. He received his B.S. degree in Criminal Justice at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.  Eric attended the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a retired, 30 year veteran of the Bristol Tennessee Police Department. He was a police officer in Valdez, Alaska for one year. 

Coach Senter started his coaching career in the late 1980's at the Bristol, Virginia youth leagues. He became an assistant coach at Virginia High School in Bristol, Virginia inn 1993, this being the high school's first year of softball. He coached at the highly  successful VHS for 13 years.

 Eric's enthusiasm and love of the game of softball is evident when you see him on the field. He has a tremendous amount of knowledge of the game and has a "knack" for recruiting.

Eric and his wife Deb reside in Bristol, Tennessee. He is the father of Justin Senter and Suzanne Senter and the step father to Rochelle Holtzclaw and Lauren Helton. He has 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.

Sidney Burns - Assistant Coach - 1st Season

Tallahassee, Fla. native Sidney Burns is the new Assistant Softball Coach for the 2011-12 season. She brings to the Cobras coaching staff 15 years of pitching experience, a heritage of collegiate success and a fresh perspective.

 

Burns is a 2011 alumna of Milligan College (Milligan College, Tenn.), where she was named the 2011 Outstanding Female Athlete.

 

Burns was a four-year starter at Milligan where she left her mark on nearly every pitching record. She shattered a 16-year-old career strikeout record with an impressive 772. The single game strikeout record also belongs to Burns with 17, along with the single season strikeout record of 261. Her career ERA also dropped to a record breaking 1.19.

 

Burns was the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Pitcher of the Year in 2008 and 2009; Region XII Pitcher of the Year in 2009; All-Conference Team member in 2008, 2009 and 2011 and an All-Region selection in 2008. The National Fastpitch Coaches' Association also honored Burns twice with second team recognition.

 

The highlight of Burns' college career was pitching against the U.S.A. Olympic softball team in April 2009.

 

In addition to success on the field, Burns graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in communications with an emphasis in public relations and advertising. She was named the Milligan College Outstanding Public Relations Student in 2011. Burns was also a two-time NAIA Scholastic Athlete and a three-time AAC Scholastic Team member.
