Thiago is a native of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil but has spent the last two years at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD.

While attending school at Montgomery College, Thiago also played soccer for the Knights. In 2008-09 they were regional champions and in 2009, Lopes was named to the All-Star team. He appeared in 20 games in 2008 and scored 4 goals, had 6 assists and in 2009 he appeared in 20 games, scored 4 goals and had 1 assist.

Coach Robert Ssejjemba stated, " Thiago is an experienced attacking midfield player who can lead by his performance. He can score and also create goals for his teammates. He will be an impact player for us."
