The Virginia Intemont softball team finished the year 22-28 overall and 13-9 in Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season.
The Lady Cobras got off to a bad start in the AAC tournament losing their first game to Tennessee Wesleyan College 2-0. VI only collected 2 hits and committed 11 strike outs. The ladies played their next game with a vengience shutting out Bluefield College 6-0. Kristen Dyer worked hard in the circle to earn the win.
On day three of the tourney, VI faced UVA @ Wise eliminating the Lady Cavs with a win of 4-0. Once again Kristen Dyer earned the win giving up only four hits and recording six strike outs while Heather Odle hit a homerun to spark the offense. In their second game of the day the Lady Cobras defeated Tennessee Wesleyan 6-5 in eight innings. Homeruns were hit by Samantha Belcher and Brittany Lewis.
Day four proved to be both exciting and dissappointing for VI. The first game of the day , the Lady Cobras fought hard to defeat #1 seeded Reinhardt College in 8 innings.Rachel Cook sparked the offense with a homerun but after regulation play, the score was knotted at 3-3. Brittany Lewis hit a 2 run homerun blast to push VI ahead 5-3.
The win over Reinhardt put VI in the championship with Union College. Union's pitcher, Abby Sears, held the Lady Cobras to three hits and they couldn't push a run across losing 2-0.
The ladies showed their Cobra pride and fought their way out of the loser's bracket to take 2nd place in the AAC tournament. We are very proud of our 2009-2010 Lady Cobras softball team.
