Cobras break school record with second round 292
Senior Greyson Rossi finishes outstanding collegiate career with 6th place
The VI Men's Golf Team completed one of the most successful seasons in the school's history by finishing fourth in AAC Tournament this past week in Winchester, Tennessee. The tournament was held at the Jack Nicklaus designed course, "Bear Trace at Tim's Ford." The tournament also serves as the qualifier for the national golf tournament.
The Cobras shot rounds of 314, 292 and 313. The second round score of 292 broke the school record of 301 by 9 strokes. The 292 included scores of 72 by Stephen Adeimy, 72 by Bryant Braithwatie, 74 by Justin Brown and 74 by Greyson Rossi. "The second round score of 292 proved to our young team that we can compete for first place in this event and that we do belong at the top of our conference. It was the second best score of the second round with Tennessee Wesleyan shooting 291," Coach Collier added.
Reinhardt College won the tournament that was contested down to the 54th hole over Milligan, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan, VI, Union, UVA-Wise, Montreat and Bluefiled.
Individually, senior Greyson Rossi closed out an excellent collegiate career by finishing 6th individually. "Greyson hit the ball well-enough to win, but did not have the putts fall for him. He was by the far the best golfer on the course on Monday in terms of ball-striking. This tournament concludes his collegiate career as the most decorated golfer in VI history. While, we have an exceptional recruiting class that will join a very good group of returning players, we will truly miss Greyson's abilities on the golf course and his leadership. I am very proud of what he has accomplished at VI and he will be graduating in a few weeks with his degree." - Coach Collier commenting on his only senior.
Coach Collier when asked to summarize this past season, said, "While, we are disappointed this week, this was a very good year for VI golf. We won a match and a tournament, we finished second in two other tournaments, we had two individuals make the all-conference team, we broke the one-day school team scoring record twice this year, we won the Champions of Character award and we firmly planted ourselves near the top of the conference and as a team that can contend next year. I can not wait until August."
