The Virginia Intermont Men's Golf Team received the Appalachian Athletic Conference "Champions of Character" award for the 2009-2010 season.

The award is voted on by the coaches of the AAC conference teams and recognizes the team in their opinion that best represents their schools and themselves while competing on the golf course. The award was announced during the annual coaches meeting and prior to the beginning of the AAC tournament in Winchester, Tennessee on Sunday, April 18, 2010. The team will be officially recognized at an awards banquet Tuesday evening following the conclusion of the AAC tournament.

"This award is truly humbling when you consider that your team is being recognized by your fellow coaches. We play in a very competitive conference with outstanding coaches and many very deserving of this recognition.  It is a tremendous honor and I am truly proud that our team has been recognized for its character and sportsmanship while competing.  It speaks volumes of the young men that we have on this team and the type of program that we are building at VI. It is a great award," said Coach Collier when asked to comment Sunday evening.
