BRISTOL, VA - With supportive fans from both Milligan and VI crammed into the Cobra Den tonight, VI gritted its teeth and fought back to beat the Milligan Buffaloes, 84-81.
It was VI's second win in a row and the Cobras third in the AAC. The Cobras are now 3-6 in the AAC, and 10-11 overall.
The newest Cobra picked up substantial points for the home team as Thomas Hawkins dropped 21, including 8 rebounds and one block. Leading the Cobras was Justin Morris who scored 22 points and hit four 3-pointers on the night.
Marquette Knight also scored in double digits with 10 and finished with eight rebounds.
Back on the floor tonight were Joshua Hart and Jimmie Ross who have both missed time recently in the past three games. Joshua Hart had nine points including a lay in that got the Cobras the lead with just over a minute remaining the game. Hart also had seven rebounds.
Free throws by the Cobras put the Buffaloes away in the final seconds who beat the Cobras by 23 points back on Nov. 30th.
Leading in scoring for the Buffaloes was Kyle Grisby who had 18 for Milligan. He was one of four Buffaloes to score in double figures (Tyler DeVault - 17, Torian Sitton - 11, and Cordero Seymour - 14).
VI will travel to Reinhardt this Saturday and take on the Eagles who VI beat back on December 3rd, 75-62. Reinhardt was ranked No. 24 in the nation at the time.
