BRISTOL, VA - Virginia Intermont volleyball held a purple and white game for VI's Willie Belcher as they took on the Lady Patriots from the University of the Cumberlands.

Belcher was the sports information director for Virginia Intermont College who was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma in July of 2010 and has since remained on as an administrative assistant on VI's staff.

The Lady Patriots would go on to get their 11th win of the season by defeating the Lady Cobras (18-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20).

VI and Cumberlands kept the match relatively even throughout the first set.  The Patriots started off on a 5-0 run to start the set but VI used a 5 point spurt of their own to get the lead late in the first set and win 25-17.

The Lady Patriots took set 2 and continued that momentum into the third and fourth set.  They built a commanding 7 point lead in set three and never looked back.

Leading the Lady Cobras in kills and digs was Brandi Blessing with 20 and 14, respectively.  Tiffany Vu also contributed 19 digs.  Rachael Bell led VI in assists with 24 while Tori Starnes tallied 17.

VI is now 10-17 on the season and still remains 6-7 in conference play.  They will be on the road this weekend when they head to Union College at noon and then play Asbury College in a tri-match on Saturday.
