BRISTOL, VA - In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Virginia Intermont College soccer program will host the "Kick It To Cancer" event at Sugar Hollow Park during their contest against Union College on October 26th, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.

This is a nationwide fundraising event for the National Foundation for Cancer Research, called "NFCR's Kick Cancer Team," in which soccer teams from across the country will commit to donating proceeds from one game or special event to the NFCR.

"We are excited to be a part of NFCR's Kick Cancer Team this year and raise awareness about the importance of cancer research," said Robert Ssejjemba, head coach of the men's team. "Our goal keeper Tyler O'Dell came to us with the idea and we were immediately on board. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way and we are looking forward to joining NFCR in their pursuit of a cure."

Over the next two weeks, VI players will be obtaining sponsorships from local businesses in the Bristol area to help raise funds while also seeking help from friends, family and the Virginia Intermont community. Also, donation centers will be on campus with information and ways to donate to the NFCR. T-shirts will be sold on campus and during the game and balloons will be sold where fans can write a message to a loved one that has or is battling cancer that will be released during a special halftime ceremony.

The event, like all VI soccer contests, are free to the public and all cancer survivors or those battling cancer in the Bristol community and surrounding areas are especially welcome to attend.

All proceeds from the event will be going to NFCR.
