BRISTOL, VA - Virginia Intermont College fell to Union College in three straight sets (10-25, 20-25, 23-25) on Thursday night.
Union dominated in the first set only allowing the Lady Cobras to score 10 points. But VI recovered in the second set and traded points with Union throughout. After a VI timeout with Union leading 20-17, Union pulled away to take the set 25-20 and survive VI's rally.
VI and Union continued to trade points in the third set. After Union got a 16-12 lead, VI climbed back to tie set three at 16 and gained their first lead of the set when they went ahead 17-16. VI and Union traded points the rest of the way. After VI gained a 1-point lead at 21-20, Union called a timeout. After VI grabbed a 23-21 lead, Union gathered itself and scored 4 straight points to take the set 25-23 and the match.
Leading the Cobras in kills and digs was Brandi Blessing with 6 and 14 respectively with Tiffany VU gathering 13 digs. Leading in assists was senior Tori Starnes with 9.
VI (6-6, 3-4 AAC) is now .500 for the first time since the start of the season and will play their next match on the road October 4th, against Montreat College.
