Bristol, VA - July 30, 2011 - As Coach Louis Collier prepares to start his fourth season as the Men's Golf Coach, things seem to be in place for what could potentially be a season to remember.

For the past two seasons, the Cobras have competed very well in a variety of tournaments, have placed golfers on the All-Conference teams and several All-Tournament teams and the level of talent on the team is now 15 players deep.

The Cobras return a total of 11 players who include seniors Justin Brown, Stephen Adeimy, Zane Rollins and Tim Wilson, juniors Ryan Harrington, Tyler Bradshaw and Kasey Marion and sophomores Kyle Linkous, Ely Buhrts, Nathan Ballenberger and John Willard.  Brown, Rollins and Wilson played in all tournaments last year and Nathan Ballenberger earned a tremendous amount of experience as a freshman.  Adeimy returns to play after a medical redshirt year.  "What a great bunch of young men we have on this team.  They do all that I ask of them and represent our team and our school extremely well.  I am thrilled to have the seniors on this team as they will continue to set the tone for our expectations.  Zane and Justin played very well for us all year and TIm provides a lot of stability.  I am very excited for Stephen to return after sitting out last year due to a health issue.  He has worked very hard to get prepared for his senior season and I expect him to pick up where he left off two years ago." - Coach Collier

Coach continues, "I expect our younger returning players to be very prepared when they arrive in a few weeks and the competition for playing time should be exciting for all of them."

New additions to the team feature two junior college players from USC-Lancaster in South Carolina.  Walt Poston and Trevor Banks join the Cobras after playing the past two years for one of the most succesful junior college programs in the country.  Poston brings a highly successful academic career and tremendous leadership qualities to VI not to mention the potential to heavily contribute on the golf course.  Banks brings a golf resume that is hard to find for a junior college player as he has been ranked in the top 20 junior college players in the country with numerous honors and tournament wins.  "Bringing in two high quality young men from a progran like Coach Walters to a very experienced returning team is a great match.  I believe that Walt will play a lot of golf for us and Trevor has the ability to win every tournament that he plays in.  We are very fortunate to have both of them select VI.  Trevor is extremely competitive by nature and will make other guys better by challenging them, " says Coach Collier.

The fall schedule is very competitive and one that will challenge the Cobras.  The Cobras go to Kiawah Island, S.C., Labor Day weekend to play in a tournament hosted by USC-Aiken that will feature 20 or so NCAA II teams and VI as the sole NAIA team.  The following week, September 12 and 13, the Cobras will participate in the Fall AAC tournament at Brevard, N.C., on a course that is very familiar to them.  The remaining Fall schedule includes the Chick-Fil-A tournament in Rome, Ga., an established tournament in Farmville, Va., and a tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Each tournament features highly competitve fields with a large number of teams.  The complete schedule is on www.viathletics.com website.

"I have enjoyed my time at VI over the past three years, re-establishing the golf program in terms of quality and number of young men, but with just a few breaks, this year could be extremely special." said Collier.
